Underrated Neighborhoods in Chicago

Published on December 21st, 2018

Chicago is well-known for its many neighborhoods, some of which provide plenty of opportunities to buy commercial real estate in Chicago. But unless you talk to someone who has lived in the area for a long time, you’re bound to only hear about the tourists’ favorite spots. Of course, while there are plenty of beautiful areas in Hyde Park, Uptown, and West Loop, it’s nice to get off the beaten path every once in a while.

Whether you’re investing in commercial real estate in Chicago or just want a new place to check out, here’s a list of Chicago’s most underrated neighborhoods.

Rogers Park

Home to Loyola University Chicago’s main campus, Rogers Park is a great place to walk and check out dozens of restaurants. Each year, Rogers Park plays host to the Chicago Comedy Film Festival which brings actors, filmmakers, and agents from all over.

With several parks, open space, events, history and culture, Rogers Park can be a good place to invest in commercial real estate in Chicago if you find the right opportunity. Not to mention, many parts of the neighborhood enjoy shorelines of Lake Michigan. And of course, Tina Fey lived there, so what’s not to like?

Little Village

You might not think it by walking through it, but Little Village is home to what was recently the second-highest-grossing shopping district in the City of Chicago. Though the shopping isn’t quite as flashy as it is in other places throughout Chicago, that doesn’t mean there isn’t money to be made in Little Village’s commercial real estate.

Edgebrook

This section of Forest Glen is just east of Sauganash and north of Forest Glen. To be sure, Edgebrook is much quieter and less urban than Little Village or Rogers Park but with great schools and a quiet neighborhood, it attracts wealthy families who are ready to settle down. These residents provide a strong and reliable economic base. That said, the opportunities for commercial real estate in Chicago you’ll find here are definitely much different than those in more urban neighborhoods.
